Paul C. Ney, Jr., Attorney – Waddey & Patterson, P.C.
Prior to joining Waddey & Patterson Law firm in Feb. 2010, Paul Ney served as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County from January 2008.
Between November 2005 and January 2008 Paul held appointed positions at the Pentagon. Most recently, he served as the Deputy General Counsel (Legal Counsel) for the U.S. Department of Defense, managing key litigation matters covering the entire Department and coordinating with the White House Counsel's Office, Department of Justice, and other agencies on the Department’s legal issues. Paul also advised senior Defense officials on a wide variety of legal questions, including detainee and Office of Military Commissions matters, and supervised the Office of Legislative Counsel and the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals.
Before joining the Department of Defense Office of General Counsel, Paul was the Acting General Counsel of the Department of the Navy and the Principal Deputy General Counsel of the Department of the Navy. As the Acting General Counsel, Paul was the Chief Legal Officer of the Department of the Navy and reported directly to the Secretary of the Navy. Paul led over 600 attorneys in approximately 140 offices worldwide on issues impacting the Navy and Marine Corps, including business and commercial law, fiscal law, personnel and labor law, intellectual property law, environmental law, ethics, intelligence operations and law enforcement, and associated litigation.
Paul has served in various professional, civic, charitable, and government organizations, including Catholic Charities of Tennessee and Dismas, Inc. Paul also served as the President of the Nashville Bar Association, the Legal Counsel to the Tennessee Republican Party, an Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt Law School, and as a member of the Metropolitan Sports Authority
Paul received his A.B. from Cornell University in 1980, and in 1984 he graduated from the dual degree program at Vanderbilt University receiving an M.B.A. from the Owen Graduate School of Management and a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School. He and his wife, Susan, reside in Nashville.
